AVE MARIA NAMED COMMUNITY OF THE YEAR AT 2017 CBIA SAND DOLLAR AWARDS

QUICK ACTION GIVES AVE MARIA HOMEOWNERS PEACE OF MIND POST HURRICANE IRMA

Ave Maria, FL., — September 25, 2017 – Homeowners, businesses and students in Ave Maria saw their town developer spring into action during the days leading up to and immediately following Hurricane Irma. Ave Maria Development and the Stewardship District spent days preparing the town prior to the storm’s impending arrival ensuring wastewater service was uninterrupted, and residents were informed of hurricane safety procedures. Residents never lost water service nor were they placed under boil water notice.

After the storm, home builders CC Homes, Del Webb, and Pulte Homes worked swiftly to clean up neighborhoods and offered homeowners assistance. Ave Maria Development and the Stewardship District quickly removed landscaping debris from the town center and roadways. Ave Maria Utility Company provided the ultimate in comfort— clean, running water to all customers in Ave Maria. Power was restored by LCEC within just a few days.

AVE MARIA UTILITY COMPANY PROVIDES SEAMLESS SERVICE THROUGHOUT HURRICANE IRMA

Ave Maria, FL., — September 21, 2017 – While hundreds of thousands of Collier County residents went without power and were under boil water notice for more than one week, the residents of Ave Maria thanked Ave Maria Utility Company (AMUC) for their seamless service throughout the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. Ave Maria Utility Company provides service to approximately 1,450 homes in Ave Maria and those homeowners retained the ability to use water for cooking and drinking during and immediately after the storm. The AMUC water plant, located in Ave Maria, suffered loss of power during the storm but thanks to careful hurricane preparation, two generators were on-hand and used to protect critical equipment when the team made the decision to go to generator power Sunday morning before actual loss of power. Staff was sheltered in the water plant and able to monitor the system status during the height of the storm providing immediate response when necessary.

“While no one likes to think that a storm of this magnitude could strike Collier County again, it’s comforting to know that our facility and staff performed optimally and our customers received the best service possible,” states Jason Vogel, Senior Project Manager for AMUC. “Ave Maria did not experience any sewer backups, overflows, or loss of wastewater service related to the hurricane and our facility escaped major damage.”

Ave Maria Utility Company, through its operator Peninsula Improvement Corporation- Operations and Maintenance Services, was able to provide service to nearby Cypress Palm Middle School, which served as a shelter for first responders. While other school shelters were weathering the difficulties of the boil water notice, Cypress Palm Middle was able to operate with clean water.
