National Homebrew Day & Competition!!
Open to the Public! In Celebration of National Homebrew Day on May 7th, Oil Well Craft Beer will be hosting the “Best of the West” Homebrew Competition. The competition will focus on the ever popular and wonderful West Coast IPA. Entry is free to those participating, however a $10 donation, which will go to the Ave Maria Community Development Corporation, would be greatly appreciated.
All participants will enjoy 20% off of their tab for the day. All verifiable members of a homebrew club will enjoy 15% off of their tab for the day. Please bring at least three 12oz bottles of your homebrew for judging. Judging samples will be placed in our cooler and poured by our staff prior to judging, so please ensure bottles are in packaging that is labeled with the brewer’s name and contact information. However, please make sure individual bottles are free of any identifiable markings. At this time we do not have any BJCP Judges, however, all judges will be seasoned IPA aficionados. Beers will be judged on aroma, appearance, flavor and mouthfeel. The top three brews will be announced at 3PM.
The 1st place winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to Oil Well Craft Beer, along with a plaque stating their name and “Top Brewer Best of the West 2022” which will be adorned on the wall of Oil Well Craft Beer. The 1st place winner will also have the opportunity to have their winning recipe brewed on our system and served in our taproom, while retaining all (appropriate) naming rights. They may also be present to observe and/or assist on brew day. The second place winner will receive a beer of their choosing on the house, along with a $25 gift certificate to Oil Well Craft Beer. 3rd place will receive a beer of their choosing on the house, along with a $15 gift certificate to Oil Well Craft Beer.
You may drop off beers for judging when the brewery opens at 11AM. Judging will take place at 3PMthat afternoon. Although it is not necessary, we would suggest that you are present at the time of judging.
After the winners are announced we will be raffling off an amazing gift basket loaded with homebrew and beer related items. We will also have a “No Pressure” donation box available to those interested in making charitable contributions.
100% of the proceeds from the raffle, as well as all donations received, will be distributed to the Ave Maria Community Corporation to be redistributed to various charitable causes.
We know there is not a lot of time to get brewing, but we know the talented homebrewers in our local area are up to the task. So hop on brewing that awesome West Coast IPA your friends and family have been raving about and we’ll see you on May 7th!!!
