For the first time, these young athletes traveled far from home, storming through district and sectional tournaments with a combined score of 71–23, and finishing seventh in the state of Florida.

Their journey began early June with their first win (12–2) over the Estates All-Stars, followed by victories against Immokalee and another win over Estates All-Stars to claim the District 18 title. They went on to win the sectional championship in LaBelle, earning a spot in the state tournament; 288 miles away from Ave Maria in Palm Coast.

“This was uncharted territory for us,” said Manager Justin Chervets, whose daughter Ava played on the team. “Sounded like a good challenge to me.”

Some players had never even stolen a base before this summer, yet by the end of the postseason, they had stolen 116 bases. For many families, the season experience was transformational. “It was challenging and helped the girls develop skills in a short amount of time,” said parent Catharine Pezzotti. Another parent, Danielle Turrubiartez, added, “They pushed through the heat and rain. They played through it all.”

Even after tough losses at the state level, the team’s spirit never wavered. “Every play was something to celebrate,” Chervets said. “Even if they struck out, at least they were swinging.”

Their remarkable season not only brought trophies, medals and memories, it sparked new excitement in their hometown. Fall registration has since quadrupled, with 41 kids signing up to play softball compared to just 11 last year. Accommodating the growth of the league, new players will soon practice and compete from new ball fields at North Park.

From amateur beginnings to state recognition, these All-Stars proved that heart, teamwork and community can result in winning goals.
