Ave Maria Jiu-Jitsu Training Center Builds Confidence, Community and Connection

The Ave Maria Jiu-Jitsu Training Center is redefining martial arts in the community with a mission rooted in confidence-building, cooperation and personal growth. Focused on skill, awareness and respect rather than confrontation, the academy welcomes students of all ages and experience levels.

Ave Maria Jiu-Jitsu Training CenterNow located in a brand-new facility (5052 Pope John Paul II Blvd., Suite 112), the center features an open-mat training space designed to foster a safe, family-friendly environment. Owner and head coach Professor Kenny Costa, a Renzo Gracie Black Belt with 15 years of training, shared the studio is situated “right in the heart of the community we love to serve.”

Programs are available for toddlers, children, teens and adults, with classes offered six to seven days a week. Toddler classes introduce movement through age-appropriate, jiu-jitsu–based games that develop balance and coordination. As students grow, the kids’ program emphasizes structure and respect through an anti-bullying curriculum designed to build self-esteem and emotional resilience.

“Our kids’ program is an important make up of what we do,” Costa said. “We teach confidence and composure so children can apply those skills beyond the mat.”

Additionally, Ave Maria Jiu-Jitsu Training Center is an approved Step Up for Students provider, expanding access for families across the community.

Adults are equally at home on the mat. Whether beginners or experienced practitioners, adult students train for fitness, stress relief, self-defense and connection. “Adults often come for the workout but stay for the community,” Costa explained.

For those interested in mixed martial arts, the center offers MMA classes combining Muay Thai striking with jiu-jitsu groundwork. A weekly MMA fundamentals class is led by Professor Chad Beatty, a fourth-degree black belt trained under legendary Brazilian jiu-jitsu master Renzo Gracie.

The coaching team also includes Coach Jenny Capozzoli, a Renzo Gracie brown belt and ESE student advocate, who brings an inclusive, compassionate approach to training students of diverse backgrounds.

Whether training solo or as a family, Ave Maria Jiu-Jitsu Training Center provides a welcoming space where students grow stronger — physically, mentally, and together.
